Blackburn Youth Attend a Horrifying Halloween Costume Party

by Maureen Forsythe, BCA Youth Director

On the sunny and windy afternoon of October 28th some 37 local youth, wearing an amazing variety of original costumes, descended on the park outside the Blackburn Community Hall for a couple of hours of ghastly fun and games.

Winners of the best costume contest, as voted by participants themselves, included William Michaud (as Recycling Bin), Geoff Harris (as Link), Henry Gottfried (as Ninja), Amelia Dullemond (as Scream Ghost) and Liv LeClair (as Joker). Special mentions also for Ava Ellis (as Snow Witch) and Henry MacWha (as the Mad Hatter). The winner of the caramel candy guessing game was Geoffrey Tait, who took home a glass skull full of 144 caramels as his prize.

After a scary eyeball scavenger hunt in the nearby haunted woods, participants played a game of terrifying touch tag and then a game of pass the squeaky rat. Everyone also listened to a reading of Haunted Houses by Henry W. Longfellow and tried to guess whether the ghosts described in the poem were angry or friendly ghosts! Cupcakes, treats and refreshments were available during the event and treat bags were distributed at the end.

Special thanks to Valerie du Plessis and Roland Beshiri for helping to decorate and set up the tent for the refreshment table and Barbara Whittaker for helping with the various activities. Special thanks also to youth volunteer Victor Prabhakaran, who attends Cairine Wilson Secondary School, for being available to help out during the event.
