Announcing the BCA Midwinter Poetry Prize for Blackburn Youth

As the spooky feeling of Halloween fades away Blackburn youth are invited to reflect on frosty mornings, falling snow and frozen evenings and to write an original winter poem that captures how they are inspired by the winter season.

Local youth aged 9-17 who either reside or attend school in Blackburn Hamlet are specifically invited to submit an original poem in English or French which must be between 200 and 225 words. The poem must also have a title. Participants must be at least 9 years old and not older than 17 years old as of December 31, 2023.

Prizes will be awarded for two age groups: 9-12 years and 13-17 years. For each age group the first place winner will receive a cash prize of $100 and two follow-up winners will each receive a cash prize of $50. The first place poems will be published in the February 2024 issue of the BANAR and all winning poems will appear on the BCA website.

Poems must be submitted by email to youth@blackburnhamlet.ca not later than 8pm on 17 January 2024. Poems (with titles) should be inserted directly into the text of the email, together with the following information: first name, last name, age as of 31 December 2023 and name of school.
