Bus Service News – More buses to Downtown

Published in The BANAR Dev=cember 1971

In order to provide an adequate service and more comfortable facilities we have made several changes to the times of bus departures for both morning and evening buses.

7:20, 7:30, 7:40 and 8:25: These arrive downtown at 7:35, 8:00, 8:10 and 8:20

This provides an “every-10-minutes” service at the time of peak demand. The 7:40 travel via the Metcalf-Catherine-Kent-Queen-Besserer route (see previous Banars) and the others follow the Nicholas-Laurier-Kent-Besserer route.

Adjustments have also been made to the evening schedule to avoid overcrowding on certain buses. The first bus (only) originates at Queen and O’Connor at 5:00 p.m. The OTHER buses all originate at Tower A of Place de Ville (Queen St. side) at 5:05, 5:15, 5:45 and 6:15. The latter two are identified “Beacon Hill” and passengers must transfer at Shoppers City for continuation to Blackburn.

For those late workers who might declare they would rather take the car than have to suffer transferring when taking the 5:45 or 6:15. The author has heard it from reliable sources that, no bone chilling wait is required at Shoppers City. In fact the Blackburn bus is invariably waiting for the bus from town and the passengers simply transfer from one warm bus onto another warm bus.

NEW BUS STOP ON EASTPARK

The committee is currently trying to determine the best location for a bus stop along the “muddy section” of Eastpark Drive (between Oakhurst and Innes road). Many new homeowners have moved in in recent weeks and we feel several of these would be interested in taking the bus if they only knew where it stopped, or didn’t have to walk through a quarter of a mile of mud to get to it. If you are interested call the agent for that area. In the meantime an interim stop has already been set up at the bend in Eastpark between Oakhurst and Innes Rd.

To Bus or not to Bus

If you are still undecided about taking the bus, may we suggest you try it. Just go to the stop, get on the bus and buy a $2.50 ticket (all tickets are now sold on the bus). The $2.50 ticket is good for 5 rides in any direction at any time. For further details call one of the agents

BUS SERVICE DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Some alterations will be made to the times of buses returning from town on Friday, December 24th, and Friday, December 31st, to accommodate the early finishing hours. Further details will be announced on the buses. However, it is possible that an (approximately) hourly service will operate beginning at 12.30 p.m. through to 5.30 p.m.

Anyone interested in a bus arriving downtown at 7.35 a.m. is asked to call P. Jeffreys. A minimum of 10 people is required to initiate this additional service.

OFF PEAK SERVICE

We regret to announce that the proposed off-peak service to St. Laurent and Shopper’s City did not become a reality as had been hoped. The Committee is still confident, however, that as soon as such a service can be shown to be economically viable the situation will be reviewed.
