Greg “Mayor Greg” Kazmierski was a beloved and enduring presence in Blackburn Hamlet, remembered for the warmth, kindness and community spirit he shared with everyone around him.
I was so honoured to work with Greg’s family and friends to help recognize Greg’s impact on our community, and have the City of Ottawa officially rename the ball diamond near the arena the Greg Kazmierski Ball Diamond.
On Saturday, May 9, his family, friends and much of the community gathered for the official unveiling, and as everyone in attendance can attest, it was a deeply moving ceremony.
For many years, Greg was a familiar presence at the ball diamond, cheering on players and teams with enthusiasm and pride. His infectious joy was a powerful reminder of how one person’s kindness and care can truly shape a community.
The strong turnout spoke volumes about the impact Greg had on so many lives. Throughout the event, stories and memories were shared, each one reflecting his welcoming nature and the simple, meaningful moments he created for others.
The Greg Kazmierski Ball Diamond will now stand as a place where people can gather, cheer and connect, carrying forward the spirit Greg brought to the community throughout his life.
