As chairman of Fun Fair 2003 I would like to extend my personal thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this year’s event a success. We faced many new challenges with a smaller board of directors and many new faces and positions as well as a wet morning that reduced our early day activities and lunch crowds.

Although the rain reduced some of the sales, it did not dampen the enthusiasm. We added a highly successful kareoke to our stage show and for the first time had a sound system that allowed us to cover most of the event grounds. We brought back the mixed adult baseball tournament and it was very successful thanks to Julie Laframbois. A special thanks also goes to Louise Bertrand for taking on the role of parade director just a few weeks before the event and pulling off a great parade.

I am looking forward to next year’s board of directors carrying on this great community project and would encourage anyone interested in volunteering for next year to join us at our wrap-up meeting on Sunday, November 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Blackburn Community Hall.

Each participating group will soon receive a detailed financial report with their share cheques so that they can see first-hand the effort and returns we generated.

This year’s shares have been established based on a share pool of $8,000 after drawing down some of our reserves. The plan for 2004 will be to return some of that year’s profits back to the reserve fund for future bad weather years. This year each share is worth 70 dollars.

I would like to thank all the following businesses and individuals who provided support for this year’s event: Lafarge, Loeb Blackburn, J&S Service Station, TD Canada Trust, Loeb Sunoco, Broebus Team, Sarah Cloutier/Remax, Councillor Rainer Bloess, Dr. Bruce Harfield, Drs.
