As usual the annual Fun Fair was an excellent way for our community to start off the summer. Everyone who helped to plan and organize this year’s Fun Fair had a great time and we were especially pleased with the community spirit that was shown despite the poor weather. Our amazing community of Blackburn Hamlet came out to join the festivities and the rain did not dampen our fun.
The new “food drive parade” tradition that we started a few year’s ago will continue to be a symbol of how our community comes together to help one another. Even though it was pouring rain our parade was successful. The Saint Joseph Store House located in Blackburn Hamlet can expect more generosity from our community as every year goes by.
The community games were moved inside the arena and many children enjoyed participating in the games as well as the arts and crafts. The focus on family is what is most attractive and what brings our community together.
The live entertainment on Saturday was incredible; it is absolutely amazing that we have such an abundance of talented people here in Blackburn.
As the day went on the weather cleared up. It was great to see hundreds of people come out to watch the incredible and beautiful fireworks display. Several people were heard to say that it was the best fireworks show that our community has ever put on.
Every year more and more volunteers come to help us run the Fun Fair. Our teenage population is really getting involved and helping us out with new ideas as well putting them into action. The teens that come out to volunteer are the next generation that will contribute and organize community events and it was fun to work alongside these future community leaders.
I would like to mention that it was especially rewarding and extremely fun to plan this signature event for our community. I really enjoy working with all of the Fun Fair volunteers who work very hard to help make this event happen. I had the benefit of working with an incredible team of people who were devoted to making our Fun Fair a huge success. There would not be a Fun Fair without the teamwork, support, and effort that these people put in. I am very thankful for all of their help.
I would also like to mention my thanks to all of the local businesses and organizations that helped to sponsor this year’s Fun Fair, and also those who made personal contributions to help us with our efforts. Blackburn is a wonderful place to live, the people and businesses in our community are very generous and supportive.
I may not be in charge of next year’s fair but I will be a volunteer in another capacity to help out the best that I can. I am already excited to get involved in next year’s fair. My hope is that it keeps getting better and better every year!
