It was a pleasure to be the Chairman of Fun Fair this year. I would like to thank the directors for their dedication and tremendous effort which made this years Fun Fair a huge success. Not only did the fair provide more activities and was open for a longer period of time for all to enjoy but this years fair surpassed all previous years fundraising records. The excellent fundraising numbers will allow us to do something special for the community this year and allow us to substantially increase the share values to all the volunteer groups that worked so hard during Fun Fair, for without them Fun Fair would not be possible. If you meet any of these dedicated directors (see shaded box) please thank them for a great job done.
The members of the Board must have enjoyed themselves and found fulfillment in this years Fun Fair as almost all of them are returning for Fun Fair 2000. As this was my second year chairing Fun Fair and due to other commitments I will not be returning next year as Chairman. I am appealing for a Chairman and a Vice Chairman for Fun Fair 2000. These two positions are critical but do not require experience nor are they extremely time consuming. Planning for Fun Fair 2000 starts this fall. If you are interested in making a difference and want to give something back to this great community that we live in, volunteer for one of these positions. You have a very capable Board of Directors who are a pleasure to work with.
Blackburn Fun Fair Auction
Auctioneer Pierre Groulx, manager of Pierre and Mario’s Independent Grocer helped make this year’s auction the most successful ever, raising more than $3,000.00 for local
community groups.
Bidders were winners too, getting great deals on everything from haircuts to horse back riding. A mountain bike from Pierre and Mario’s Independent Grocer, and a satellite dish system from Satlink were some of the big ticket items which kept the bidding going several hours.
There were plenty of passes for kid’s activities and clothing, but what really captivated them were the baby bunnies donated by Woodburn farms. (Aw mom can I please please please…)
The only dark spot was the theft of the lovely gas barbecue donated by Blackburn Loeb. It was immediately replaced by a certificate for $100.00 worth of groceries at the Loeb.
