This year’s FUNFAIR started off a little cool on Friday night but the rain held off until Sunday afternoon. All in all it was another great FUNFAIR as we celebrated our community and Canada’s 150th with a mix of extra events and entertainment throughout the weekend. Friday night we kicked off with a great turnout for movie night and the mixed softball tournament. The free entertainment at the beer gardens and a craft beer night was well attended. The midway was hopping as the youth Glow Dance in the arena was cranking out the latest tunes.
Saturday started with a delicious pancake breakfast followed by a Canadian-themed parade. The day progressed with an assortment of events, activities and free entertainment which was then capped off with a grand fireworks display and fantastic music at the Beer Gardens. On Sunday we had the 5 and 1 km FunRuns and despite some mild rain there were excellent outdoor activities that included the midway, dog show, yoga in the park and a performance from a local indigenous group as well as Glow Wars inside the arena.
As always, it is the people within our community that continue to make FUNFAIR a success. Our dedicated sponsors see this and continue to give us amazing support. Together we are able to support local organizations, school programs and associations within Blackburn Hamlet with the distribution of profits. Final amounts and distribution of shares will be reported in the next BANAR.
I would like again to express my gratitude to the FUNFAIR team, all the volunteers, and community for their continued support. Next year’s FUNFAIR will be Friday, June 1st to Sunday, June 3rd so mark your calendars now! I am looking forward to another great year.
