The 12th annual Blackburn Hamlet Spring Clean-up was held on April 28th, with approximately 135 participants. It was a spectacular day, with many Blackburn residents coming out to pitch in. We gathered about 50 bags of garbage as well as some big ticket items like old barrels and discarded signs. We also collected over 4 litres of used household batteries.

As always, a big thank you goes out to the BCA for their continued support of this community event. The BCA covers the cost of the complimentary BBQ and the promotion of the event.

We’d also like to thank each person and family that took the time out of busy schedules to help clean up our neighbourhood. The Blackburn Spring Clean-up is definitely a “team effort”. Behind the scenes of the event, we also have a loyal team of volunteers including those who helped by promoting the event through community signs and the website, working the “registration” table, organizing the BBQ, flipping the burgers, transporting waste back to the Blackburn Community Hall and providing City of Ottawa door prizes.

This year we are pleased to report that the following two local companies demonstrated outstanding community support and leadership for this event this year:

  • Howey and Shelley White, owners of the Blackburn Tim Hortons for their generous donation of coffee and Timbits.
  • Danny McInenly and his team from Mac Roofing for their donation of labour, truck and door prizes.

Thanks to all for making this another successful annual event in our community. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
