The 11th annual BlackburnHamlet Spring Clean-up was held on April 30th with approximately 120 participants. As this was the “rain date”, we were pleased with the turnout, and really enjoyed a beautiful spring day to do the cleanup. We collected 75-100 bags of garbage this year, in addition to the many bags of waste that were collected by Blackburn Hamlet families who did their own “cleanups” throughout the month of April. High school students also helped to remove graffiti tags throughout the community.
As always, a big thank you goes out to each person and family that took the time out of busy schedules to help clean-up our neighbourhood. In particular, thanks goes out to all those who helped in other ways such as promoting the event through signage and the website, working the “registration” table, organizing the BBQ, flipping the burgers, transporting waste back to the Community Hall, and providing City of Ottawa door prizes. We couldn’t do it without this loyal team of volunteers.
Thanks to the BCAfor their continued support of this event, as well as to the local Tim Hortons owners Howy and Shelley White for their generous donation of coffee and Timbits. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
