We had a beautiful day! Held on Saturday, April 18th more than 130 volunteers from the community participated in the yearly litter and graffiti removal effort. With this many volunteers we were able to have excellent coverage of the public properties across the community, and collected well over 100 bags of garbage as well as several large refuse items.
This year, we enjoyed welcoming many new young families, in addition to the many returning families and friends who have participated in this long-standing community tradition for years. We also had a record number of high school students join us too, working towards their volunteer hour requirements. Thank you!
We were particularly pleased to receive into our midst both our local MPP Marie-France Lalonde and our new City Councillor Jody Mitic, celebrating the efforts of our community volunteers.
As always, this event could not have success without the many volunteers that make this event possible, including the BBQ flippers, truck drivers, sign posters and registration coordinators! Former City Councillor Rainer Bloess contributed door prizes for all and Shelley and Howy White, the proprietors from Tim Horton’s in the Hamlet, contributed free coffee, hot chocolate and Timbits for all the volunteers. As always, the Blackburn Community Association sponsored the event, including the BBQ.We have a lot to be proud of here in the Hamlet. Thanks again to all and hope to see you next year!
