Thanks to great community support, Blackburn’s First Annual Run for the Cure was a success, well beyond expectations. The run/walk which was held on October 5th raised $6743.50 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. For three years a handful of Blackburn residents donated and walked the distance in Blackburn, this year just one month ahead of the run date, they decided to make the walk here a true community one. And that it was — complete with “Team Blackburn Hamlet Run for the Cure” T-shirts and a banner that all participants signed (to be displayed at each year’s run). Many people enjoyed the venue as an alternative to the big walk down town and certainly our pathways here in Blackburn made it a very enjoyable route for all.
Thanks to Rainer Bloess, our official starter at the 1st Annual Run, LOEB Blackburn for providing refreshments before and after the run, and our community association for use of the Community Hall.
The organizing group is meeting within the week to go over ways of improving the Run for next year— and from the experience of this year, a goal of $10,000 and 100 participants seems quite possible.
