What a Difference after the Spring Clean Up!

by Lisa Margeson

On April 25, the annual Blackburn Hamlet Spring Clean Up had a great turnout of almost 200 participants!

Thanks to their efforts, hundreds of bags of garbage were removed from the main streets, all the parks, school areas, the community garden, and even up to the Green’s Creek toboggan hill. And the Hamlet looked refreshed for 2026.

Everyone was given som gloves and garbage bags, which were provided through the City of Ottawa’s Cleaning Up the Capital program, and by the BCA.

As usual, the BCA showed its appreciation by providing volunteers with a lunch BBQ. The BCA had bought a brand-new BBQ the day before, but it turned out to not be as large as the last one, so another thank you to the participants who patiently waited for their hamburger, hotdog, veggie burger or Halal burger to be grilled.

Thank you also out to the Blackburn Shoppers Drug Mart for donating cold beverages, to Tim Hortons for donating hot coffee and hot chocolate, and the Metro for a discount on the food.

And last but not least is a shout out to the volunteers of BCA and a few others, along with everyone who came to help out. Without all of you, this couldn’t happen.
