Don Kelly, BCA Director
Many hands made light work on October 4 to plant over 1,000 new trees!
Earlier this year, the City of Ottawa acquired the property at 1754 St. Joseph Boulevard (the former convent and dormitory grounds off St. Joseph Boulevard). Councillor Dudas held consultations on what the community wanted to see happen with the space. The overwhelming response was reforestation.
With Councilor Dudas leading the charge and thanks to a generous grant from Trees for Life, a national charity with a mission to create a healthier, happier Canada by planting native trees where we live, work, and play. Volunteers of all ages came together on a sunny Saturday morning in October to plant all the new trees. Other councillors joined in, along with volunteers from the BCA and the 1st Blackburn Scouts. The BCA’s Youth Director, Melanie Mathieu, helped many youth volunteers join in and gain some community service hours.
In her talk with volunteers, Councillor Dudas highlighted this as an opportunity for everyone to come together to green our neighbourhood, strengthen our local ecosystem and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
Thanks to everyone for supporting the tree planting event and sharing your time and effort to make our environment a better place.
