David Purchase & Don Kelly
The BCA and the 2025 Cancer Chase committee would like to thank our community for their generous support of this year’s big event! The Cancer Chase is a charity event that raises funds for cancer research at the Ottawa Hospital via the Ottawa Hospital Foundation (OHF). Over the years, it has raised over $350,000!
This year’s event was held on September 24 at the Blackburn Community Center and raised a record $19,500. Of special note was the outstanding work of Dr. Chantal Plant (Blackburn Shoppes Dental Centre) and her team who organized a donation opportunity at her business that raised almost $5,000. Equally important, and exceptionally generous, was the offer from the Frangian family (Blackburn Pharmacy) to match donations up to $5,000. Other notable donations included a $1,000 donation from Sandra Crabtree who has supported our event for many years. These acts truly reflect the kind and generous spirit of our community.
Under a glorious sun and mild temperatures, over 65 people participated in the Walk/Run around a specially designed route throughout the Hamlet. Many thanks go to the volunteers who directed traffic, some with colorful costumes, and/or assisted with the course. Hats off also goes to Tammy Bedard and the Aspira Retirement Residence for providing refreshments and treats, and the Orient Park Condominium Management Group (CMG) and its Manager, Scott Brohman, for their continuing community support. We would be remiss if we did not thank Natasha De Sousa (Ottawa Hospital Foundation) and her team for their outstanding administrative and financial accounting support.
The Silent Auction was also a big success, under the stewardship of Camille-Emmanuelle Purchase. The auction would not be possible without your support. This year, companies, such Your Way Lawn & Snow, Tim Hortons (Blackburn), Budd Gardens, Imillio’s Pizzeria, Petro Canada, Kowalski Hearing Solutions, LaPierre Law Office, Blackburn Pharmacy, Jan’s Workout and the Blackburn Physiotherapy & Sports Clinic were very generous with their donations. The BCA is appreciative of all of our community partners.
Again, THANK YOU Blackburn for helping make our Cancer Chase so successful!
