We’re so excited!! Sunday, June 21, rain or shine, the first Blackburn Hamlet Garden Tour is set to go. Twelve enthusiastic gardeners here in Blackburn have volunteered to open their gardens for viewing, answer questions, trade gardening secrets and meet fellow garden lovers from 12:00 noon until 4:30 p.m. The money earned from the tour will be used to start a landscaping fund for our new community centre set for groundbreaking in the Fall of 1998.

Please plan to attend, to have some fun, learn more about gardening, meet some neighbours and to support a good cause.

Your Tour Guide is your Ticket

The Tour Guides, on sale now at Blackburn Home Hardware and Budd Gardens Perennials for $10.00 each, are the tickets to the gardens. They will also be available the day of the garden tour at the Bearbrook Court Retirement Residence, 2645 Innes Rd., starting at 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Just show your Tour Guide at each garden on tour. The Tour Guides are also admission to the guest celebrity speaker and afternoon tea.

Guest Celebrity Speaker

We are incredibly fortunate to have Jeff Arsenault of The Garden Foundation as our speaker. Jeff, whose garden is a local tourist attraction in Morrisburg, whose devotion to gardening is famous, is featured regularly on CJOH and has been written up several times in the Citizen. He will speak from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the lovely Bearbrook Court Retirement Residence at the intersection of Bearbrook and Innes roads. We regret that seating must be limited to the first 100 people to arrive. Admission to the lecture room starts at 9:30. Just show your Tour Guide to be admitted.

Afternoon Tea

The Bearbrook Court Retirement Residence graciously invites you to afternoon tea between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Coffee, tea, fruit punch and pastries will be served. When you feel you need a little refreshment during your afternoon of garden delights just tear out the “TEA” coupon in your Tour Guide and head for the Bearbrook Court.

Washrooms are also available at the Bearbrook Court Residence.

The Blackburn Hamlet Garden of Distinction

One other thing you will find in your Tour Guide is a ballot so you can vote for your favourite garden. The garden that receives the most votes will receive the Blackburn Hamlet Garden of Distinction Award donated by Budd Gardens Perennials. If you hand in your ballot at Budd Gardens you will receive a free perennial. If you hand it in at the Afternoon Tea you will receive a coupon to take to Budd Gardens to receive your free perennial.
