Teddy Bear Picnic for CHEO

Teddy Bear Picnic for CHEO

Saturday September 7th from 10am to 1pm at the Blackburn Community Hall and exterior Park (weather permitting).

CHEO Bear Hospital: Do you have a teddy bear or stuffed animal in need of a little love and care? Bring it to the community hall for free treatment of any 'injuries' they might have sustained.

Loads of Activities: Games, music, reading corner, coloring contest, prizes, raffle for CHEO and more! Light refreshments will be available.

Are you handy with a needle and thread? Want to help make someone’s day a bit brighter? If you are interested in helping at this event on September 7th, please email enviro@blackburnhamlet.ca.

The BCA Cancer Chase event is back in the Hamlet!

On SEPTEMBER 8 join us for an enjoyable 5K Walk/Run with the participants getting a Swag Bag of exciting trinkets and a chance for cool gifts.

Aspira Bearbrook Retirement Residence, the BCA and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute are working together to offer to Blackburn residents aged 65+ with no known heart issues the opportunity to have a free heart-valve disease screening appointment.

Where: Front of Aspira Bearbrook Retirement Residence, 2645 Innes Road 

Participants have the option to do a shorter or a longer route. Water bottles are recommended and the walks will proceed rain on shine.

BCA In Person Board Meeting
Board Meeting

The BCA Board meetings will be held in person on the Third Thursday in September, October and November.  After a Christmas break, the January, February and March meetings will be virtual Zoom calls.

Residents of Blackburn Hamlet are welcome to join us for the next meeting at in the Barn Loft at Just Food Farm (2391 Pépin Court) on the evening of September 19, 2024  starting at 7:30pm. If you are driving, go past the barn on the right side and turn right into the parking area.

Discovery Care All Ages Welcome

Fraud Prevention and Awareness – Stephanie Senecal

When: Wednesday, September 26, 2024 at 7:00 PM

Where: Blackburn Community Hall, 190 Glen Park Drive

Admission is free, refreshments will be served and people of all ages are invited to attend.

In this important session, we will learn about the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC), the tools fraudsters use, top payment and communication methods, the top scams, what to do if you are a victim, and how to report fraud.

Stephanie Senecal is an OPP civilian member and the Senior Support Coordinator at the CAFC. She manages a team of senior volunteers who do call backs to senior victims of fraud, who input fraud data and who also do fraud prevention presentations to the public. Stephanie also presents on a regular basis and assists law enforcement with their senior victims of fraud.

Hospice Care Ottawa

Hospice Care Ottawa

Hospice Care Ottawa is looking for direct and non direct client care volunteers. The 30 hour direct client training will begin in October, and Maison de l’Est will be looking for volunteers (over the age of 18) to provide end of life volunteer care to our clients.

Smartnet Sustainability ShowcaseSustainability Showcase

The SmartNet Sustainability Showcase & Electric Vehicle Exhibition will be held at its new location, Just Food Farm (2391 Pepin Court)! With activities both inside and out, it will be an awesome day of all things Sustainability. The event will take place on October 5th, from 10am to 4pm and will include participation from the Electric Vehicle Council of Ottawa EV Experience to share their experience driving Electric Vehicles.
