BCA Bites
Blackburn Hamlet originated as a farming community in the early 1800s, named after Robert Blackburn, a local Reeve and later Member of Parliament. Excluded from the NCC’s 1960s Greenbelt expropriations, it was transformed into a self-contained satellite suburb in 1963. Today, it remains uniquely surrounded by protected Greenbelt lands. |

Halloween Treat Accessibility
Blackburn Hamlet, let’s make Halloween accessible for everyone!
Halloween brings our neighbourhood to life: children and families are out, neighbours connect, and our community shines. But for some children and families, Halloween can feel less inviting. For example, those 3 steps to reach the front door can be a barrier for anyone using a wheelchair or mobility device.
This year’s TreatAccessibly campaign has distributed signs identifying participating homes where there is barrier free access to Halloween treats and we have created a map to highlight these locations.

Thank you to all the participating homes who are helping to make Halloween a celebration every child can enjoy!

Computer and Electronic Waste Event
The 1st Blackburn Scout Group has rescheduled its Computer and Electronic Waste recycling event to October 31 and November 1, 10am - 5pm each day. The bin will be located in the 'side' Metro parking lot (off Glen Park).
Bring us your old computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, TVs, cameras, printers, hard drives, CPU boards and cables and help us raise money to help our scouting youth enjoy camping and many other activities. And let your friends, family and co-workers know about our event.
Note: We will not accept batteries that are separated from any electronics and we will not be accepting any appliances.
Thank you for your support! |

DISCOVERY CAFÉ Lecture Series – – Flying High – Canada’s Future Low Altitude Economy – Dr. Jeremy Laliberté, Carleton University
Thursday, November 26, 2026, at 7:00 PM
Blackburn Community Hall, 190 Glen Park Drive
Admission is free, no registration is required, people of all ages are welcome, and refreshments will be served.
Canada has historically been a leading aerospace country, with one of the largest traditional aerospace sectors relative to population. However, change is coming in the form of “advanced air mobility”, representing one of the most disruptive shifts in the global aerospace sector since the introduction of the jet engine. Advanced air mobility, or AAM, includes well-known technologies such as military and recreational drones, as well as less prominent advances such as pilotless air taxis, wide-scale use of autonomous delivery drones, novel vertical take-off and landing aircraft, and electrically powered aircraft, among others. Dr. Jeremy Laliberté, from Carleton’s Advanced Aircraft Design Laboratory, will share recent advances in this emerging field and discuss the impact on Canada’s traditional aerospace sector and the broader Canadian economy as low-altitude advanced air mobility technologies take flight.
For Dr. Jeremy Laliberté's biography, please visit blackburnhamlet.ca/261126.
For those who missed last month's lecture on Strokes by Dr. Christopher Skinner, you can now watch it on the BCA Youtube channel. |
