Local youth aged 9-14 who either reside or attend school in Blackburn Hamlet are invited to submit an original short story in English or French. Participants must be at least 9 years old and not older than 14 years old as of December 31, 2022.

The fictional story must demonstrate or bring alive some aspect of the theme “the power of words, spoken or written” and it must be between 175 and 225 words long.

The first place winner will receive a cash prize of $150 and three follow-up winners will each receive a cash prize of $75. The first prize story will be published in the February 2023 issue of the BANAR and all winning stories will also appear on the BCA website. The stories will be reviewed by a panel of at least three judges.

Stories should be submitted by email as a plain text PDF attachment to youth@blackburnhamlet.ca not later than 8pm on 19 January 2023. The email attachment should be labelled as follows: first name_last name_age as of 31 Dec 2022_name of school.
