DESCRIPTION:Ecology Ottawa and BCA tree team will be handing out free saplings near the entrance to the Blackburn Metro store from 9am to Noon. \nWhat trees will we have available? \nWe’re going to have more tree species variety than ever before this year! This will include 22 species of native coniferous and deciduous trees—including more fruit\, nut\, berry\, and sap-bearing trees than ever to help address food security in the region. A full species list is coming soon! \nWe are proud to source all of the trees we distribute from the Ferguson Tree Nursery in Kemptville. They only grow native and proven non-invasive naturalized trees\, shrubs\, and perennials hardy for the south-central and eastern Ontario climate. \n*Please note: \n\nThe trees available through this program are between half a foot and a foot and a half tall.\nWe are not able to make any guarantees of which tree species will be at any given event. We will always do our best to bring as many different species as possible to each giveaway\, however\, we cannot guarantee that we will have every species on the 2022 list available at any one time.\nTrees are living things and Mother Nature doesn’t always want to follow our schedule. We appreciate your understanding in advance that the trees available through this program are subject to change based on nursery availability.

DESCRIPTION:20th Annual Blackburn Hamlet Spring Clean-up  \nWhen: Saturday April 30 at 9:30 a.m. \nRain date: Sunday May 1st at 9:30 a.m. \nWhere: Blackburn Community Hall 190 Glenpark Drive \nAlong with many other communities of the Ottawa area\, the Blackburn Community Association holds an annual Spring Clean-Up.  Please volunteer to help us out; we will assign you a small area of Blackburn for litter pick-up plus provide you with garbage bags and latex gloves. The litter and recyclables can be brought back to the Community Hall.  This event runs on April 30th from 9:30 to 11:30 in the morning. Volunteers are then invited to a BBQ (including vegetarian options) to say thanks for all your ‘dirty’ work.  The Ontario Covid-19 protocols will be in place. \nIf you have any questions\, contact the BCA Environment Committee at: cleanup@blackburnhamlet.ca.
