DESCRIPTION:Please be advised that our AGM will be held on Thursday\, March 23\, 2023 at 7:30 pm. Participation is open to all residents of Blackburn Hamlet\, however\, voting privileges are only for residents who have renewed their BCA membership at least seven (7) days prior to the meeting (BCA Memberships are valid from July 1\, 2022 to June 30\, 2023). \nTo ensure the health and safety of all\, our AGM will be held by way of a Zoom conference. You will be able to participate in our AGM using your computer\, smart phone or tablet\, or by dialing in to a Toronto number with a standard phone if you prefer.   While this may be a first for some of you\, you will see that participating in our AGM by audio or video conference is quite easy. You’ll be able to follow the discussion and vote\, just like you do at a normal AGM\, but all of this from the comfort of your home.  You will also be able to ask questions at the end of each presentation. \nThe two main areas of discussion at the AGM will be: \n\na review of our 2023 activities\nelection of the board.\n\nTo ensure the security of the Zoom meeting\, participants will need to send an email to  secretary@blackburnhamlet.ca at least three (3) days before the AGM in order to register.  A link to the meeting will be sent to all registrants the day before the AGM. \nWe look forward to your active participation in this year’s AGM!

SUMMARY:CPR C & AED Training
DESCRIPTION:Interested in high quality\, affordable first aid training? The Blackburn Community Association has arranged for a four hour CPR C & AED training by the Ottawa Paramedic Service\, Public Education Section. \nTraining will be held Sunday July 24th from 8h30am to 12:30pm (4 hours)\, in English and costs $45+ HST/participant. The training will be held at the Blackburn Community Hall (190 Glen Park Drive). To hold a course we require a minimum of eight (8) participants with a maximum number of 16 participants. \nSpecifically\, the course teaches participants how to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies. Students will learn to administer CPR to adults\, children and infants as well as choking procedures and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This course is suitable for any person. Certification is valid for one year. \nIf you are interested\, email enviro@blackburnhamlet.ca with your name\, phone number\, and e-transfer $50.85 to treasurer@blackburnhamlet.ca with the message  “First Aid Course”. Registration will be confirmed once payment is received. If the training is canceled as a result of insufficient registrations\, the amount will be reimbursed. Otherwise\, the amount is non-refundable. Deadline for registration is July 15th at noon.” \nParticipants have the following responsibilities. \n\nComplete and pass a COVID-19 self assessment\nBring and wear a mask at all times while indoors\nWear additional PPE when directed to by the instructor\nPractice physical distancing of 2m throughout the course\nAvoid sharing personal issue equipment (bandages\, face mask\, textbooks\, etc.)\nPerform hand hygiene throughout the course\nAlert the instructor if the student begins to experience COVID-19 symptoms.

DESCRIPTION:After a two year hiatus\, the Blackburn Hamlet Community Garage Sale is back! The sale will be held on Saturday\, May 7th from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm (subject to public health guidance on major events at the time of the sale). The entire community is invited…rain or shine! \nHamlet residents do not need to register or sign up – simply put out a table and join in! However\, in past years Lino Demasi has been kind enough to put together aa unofficial map of participating houses. DESCRIPTION:20th Annual Blackburn Hamlet Spring Clean-up  \nWhen: Saturday April 30 at 9:30 a.m. \nRain date: Sunday May 1st at 9:30 a.m. \nWhere: Blackburn Community Hall 190 Glenpark Drive \nAlong with many other communities of the Ottawa area\, the Blackburn Community Association holds an annual Spring Clean-Up.  Please volunteer to help us out; we will assign you a small area of Blackburn for litter pick-up plus provide you with garbage bags and latex gloves. The litter and recyclables can be brought back to the Community Hall.  This event runs on April 30th from 9:30 to 11:30 in the morning. Volunteers are then invited to a BBQ (including vegetarian options) to say thanks for all your ‘dirty’ work.  The Ontario Covid-19 protocols will be in place. \nIf you have any questions\, contact the BCA Environment Committee at: cleanup@blackburnhamlet.ca.
