SUMMARY:Hockey Day in the Hamlet 2026
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Hockey Day in the Hamlet will be held on January 17 at the Norman Johnson outdoor rink. This is a change of dates from previous years. The new date allows for more choice of Ottawa 67 hockey games. 10 Pairs of Free tickets will be handed out to participants. Efforts are underway to also have free tickets to the Ottawa Charge of the PWHL. \nActivities will start at 11:00 AM and continue until 3:00 PM. There will be a hockey skills and demonstrations on the main rink while an assortment of different activities will be held for on the Puddle Rink beside the main rink. Of course\, there will be hot dogs & hamburgers\, with toys\, such as miniature hockey sticks. \nIf you would like to volunteer to help with the on-ice activities please contact Don Kelly at safety@blackburnhamlet.ca.

DESCRIPTION:This year’s lighting of the Blackburn Community Christmas Tree will be held on December 13. The tree\, with its array of decorations\, will be positioned directly in front of the Blackburn Pharmacy\, located at 2575 Innes Road (intersection of Southpark & Innes). This year’s theme is “The joy of Family”. \nOur Tree Lighting event is a wonderful community tradition that brings neighbours\, families\, and friends together to celebrate the start of the holiday season. While the official lighting is planned for 5:30pm on December 13 we encourage everyone to be onsite before the lighting so as to enjoy the festive atmosphere. We will have gifts for the children\, the music of Christmas carols\, snacks for all ages and the delicious taste of hot chocolate\, courtesy of our Councillor Laura Dudas. \nThere will be limited parking in the area and we ask that you use the parking area at École Sainte-Marie. \nWe look forward to seeing everyone on December 13.

DESCRIPTION:The annual Blackburn Hamlet Community Association (BCA) Santa Pancake Breakfast will be held on December 6 at our Community Centre. There is Free Admission for the family\, if a BCA Member\, and a charge of $10 per family\, if not a BCA Member. You may purchase your BCA Membership at the door\, please cash only. Or\, you can purchase your membership by going to the BCA website and completing the membership application form. Remember\, the BCA membership fee helps support the various activities of the BCA\, such as the Santa Breakfast. \nTo meet the high demand for this event this year’s Santa’s Pancake Breakfast will have 4 separate Sittings: 8:15\, 9:15\, 10:15 and 11:15 am. Registration is required for all 4 Sittings. You may register for the breakfast at safety@blackburnhamlet.ca. \nEverything will be the same at all 4 Sittings\, including food\, music\, and the Star of the event\, the Big Guy in the Red Suit\, handing out gifts and Christmas delights. Of course\, there will be buttermilk pancakes\, delicious sausages and other delicacies for everyone to enjoy. \nWe look forward to seeing you on December 6.

Heather is a retired teacher specializing in the arts. She has facilitated several art activities for children and adults and creates all kinds of art in her spare time. Please join us on July 6 & 7 between 10am and 4pm for the 3rd annual Garden Tour\, right here in the Hamlet. DESCRIPTION:The BCA AGM will be held in-person at the Community Hall (190 Glen Park Drive) on Thursday\, March 21\, 2023 at 7pm.  Participation is open to all residents of Blackburn Hamlet\, however\, only residents who have renewed their BCA membership at least seven (7) days prior to the meeting are eligible to vote (https://blackburnhamlet.ca/about/bca-membership/). \nIn addition to the review of the BCA Budget and 2023 activities and the election of the board\, there will also be a vote on changes to our articles of incorporation and a meet and greet/social activity that will be announced in early March. \n\nThe motion is for BCA Members to approve the following addition to our articles of incorporation in order to comply with the new Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA). \nBlackburn Community Association has two types of memberships: Regular and Associate \nRegular members reside within the boundaries of Blackburn Hamlet. Membership gives them the right to vote on motions raised at Members’ Meetings and to vote on the election of the Directors. \nAssociate members reside outside the boundaries of Blackburn Hamlet. Membership gives them the right to vote motions raised at Members’ Meetings. Associate members are not eligible to vote on the election of the Directors. \n\nBoard Elections \n\nVoting Members must be present at the Members’ meeting\nMembers must have paid for membership at least 7 days prior to the AGM\nVoting is restricted to two adults (18 years or older) per household\nAssociate Members are not entitled to vote on the election of the Directors\nCandidates must be BCA Members or Associate members and nominated and seconded by BCA Members\nIf there is only one candidate for President\, Vice-President\, Treasurer or Secretary\, the candidate will be elected without a vote unless there is an objection raised\nIf there are 11 or fewer candidates for Director\, the candidates will be elected without a vote unless there is an objection raised\nIf a written vote is required\, the President shall appoint a Member of the BCA to conduct the voting\nPortfolio Chairs / Co-Chairs will be determined at a board meeting after the AGM.\n\nWe look forward to your active participation in this year’s AGM! \nBlackburn Community Association

We will have a variety of new-to-you clothing that is freshly laundered\, FREE\, and ready to be rocked by you! \nTo ensure we are creating an inclusive space at our swap\, we will be inviting participants to come according to the following schedule: \n\n9am – 11 am – seniors and adults who benefit from a quiet environment\n11am – 1 pm – families\n1pm – 5pm – everyone\n\nDonations for the swap will be accepted from February 1st. Please provide GENTLY USED CLOTHING DONATIONS ONLY (we will not accept accessories\, shoes\, or undergarments).  Drop off at 9 Catalpa Court or 2188 Orient Park Dr.  \nWe are looking for volunteers to help on April 15th. SUMMARY:BCA Annual General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Please be advised that our AGM will be held on Thursday\, March 23\, 2023 at 7:30 pm. Participation is open to all residents of Blackburn Hamlet\, however\, voting privileges are only for residents who have renewed their BCA membership at least seven (7) days prior to the meeting (BCA Memberships are valid from July 1\, 2022 to June 30\, 2023). \nTo ensure the health and safety of all\, our AGM will be held by way of a Zoom conference. You will be able to participate in our AGM using your computer\, smart phone or tablet\, or by dialing in to a Toronto number with a standard phone if you prefer.   While this may be a first for some of you\, you will see that participating in our AGM by audio or video conference is quite easy. You’ll be able to follow the discussion and vote\, just like you do at a normal AGM\, but all of this from the comfort of your home.  You will also be able to ask questions at the end of each presentation. \nThe two main areas of discussion at the AGM will be: \n\na review of our 2023 activities\nelection of the board.\n\nTo ensure the security of the Zoom meeting\, participants will need to send an email to  secretary@blackburnhamlet.ca at least three (3) days before the AGM in order to register.  A link to the meeting will be sent to all registrants the day before the AGM. \nWe look forward to your active participation in this year’s AGM!
