Blackburn Seniors (55+) are invited to gather for a great meal, wonderful conversation and lots of laughs on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 9:00 AM at Halibut House, 2672 Innes Road

Donations of non-perishable items for the Lifecentre Foodbank would be appreciated.

Garden Stroll 2025

It's BCA Membership Renewal Time!

If you have purchased a Blackburn Community Association (BCA) membership over the last year, please remember that it will expire on June 30, 2025.

You can renew online or by mail.

A BCA Membership is only $10 per family at the same address. A family is defined as two adults and all dependents at the same address.  The membership is valid from July 1st of one year to June 30th of the subsequent year.

Draft Zoning By-law Update

The BCA would like to thank everyone for the feedback provided on the proposed changes to the City of Ottawa Zoning By-law.  The zoning that was applied to Blackburn Hamlet was based on a previous decision to include Blackburn Hamlet in the Outer Urban transect, meaning our neighbourhood would have a higher density than our closest neighbours in Orleans.

At the June 18 Joint Planning and Housing Committee and Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee meeting, Councillor Dudas proposed an addendum to the Official Plan consistency amendments that classifies communities within the greenbelt, that are less than 250 meters away from the outer edge, as Suburban. This amendment was approved by the Committee and was subsequently approved at the June 25th City Council Meeting.

As a result of this change, the next version of the Draft Zoning By-law will show the Blackburn Hamlet Zoning aligned with the zoning of our neighbouring communities in Orleans.

Ottawa Emergency Notification System

The City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Police Service can now send emergency information directly to your personal devices  through their Ottawa Alert App, email, SMS text or a phone call.

In an emergency, guidance and recovery information will be sent through Ottawa Alert to subscribed residents, businesses and visitors. Receiving timely emergency information on our phones, computers or other devices is the best way to stay informed and to be prepared. 

Here is how to sign up: 

1. Visit the Alertable sign-up page 
2. Select how you want to receive alerts
3. Enter your contact information
4. Enter the access code you get to verify your sign-up
5. Choose City of Ottawa or wards from the list of locations
6. Choose what types of notifications you want to get
7. Click finish and you’re all set to get notifications in your area!

Congratulations Don Kelly!

The month of June has been an exceptional month for Blackburn Hamlet's own Don Kelly.  As a result of his active involvement in making Blackburn Hamlet such a great place to live, Don received two separate awards!

On June 6th, Don was awarded the Move 100/CTV/La-Z-Boy Community Hero award and On June 13th he was awarded a RedBlacks Wood Cookie, in recognition of his service to the community.  

The BCA congratulates Don for his recent awards and thanks him for all of his work to support our community.
