The BCA is proud to present the 2024 edition of the Blackburn FunFair which runs from Friday May 31 to Sunday June 2.

Highlights of this year's fair include:

FRIDAY

  • Mojo Magic Show 5:30pm
  • Movie Night  6:00pm
  • Craft Brew Night 5pm-10pm
  • Soul Motion Band on Stage 7pm-10pm

SATURDAY

  • Pancake Breakfast 8am-10am
  • Parade 10am
  • Vendor & Community showcase 10am-4pm
  • Silent Auction 10am-3pm
  • Used Book Sale 10am-3:30pm
  • Food, Fun & Games 11am-10pm
  • BBQ Lunch 11am-3pm
  • Little Ray’s Reptiles 11am & 1pm
  • Musical entertainment on stage 11am-5pm
  • Field Games 1pm-4pm
  • Magic Show Noon, 3:30pm & 6pm
  • Beer Garden 11am-6pm
  • Little Mistaken followed by Ambush on Stage  7pm-11:45pm

  • FunRun 5K @ 9am, 1K @10:15am

BCA Memberships 

MembershipBCA Memberships run from July 1st to June 30. Any memberships purchased since May 1st will expire next year on June 30, 2025. You can signup and renew your BCA Membership online and send payment by eTransfer or you can visit our BCA Membership table (Cash Only) at the FunFair Showcase this coming Saturday, June 1st in the Lois Kemp Arena.

Your $10 annual membership helps support BCA activities such as the BANAR, representation to various levels of government, FunFair, Hockey Day, Santa’s Breakfast, as well as numerous initiatives for youth, seniors and the community. One membership covers 2 adults and their dependents living at the same address.

Volunteer Appreciation 

Angie Jodoin Volunteer Appreciation Award

On Saturday May 25th, the BCA held a Volunteer Appreciation Party to celebrate all of the volunteers who help make our community such a great place to live.  Thanks to Just Food for letting us use their beautiful barn loft and the Fake McCoys for entertaining the crowd.

During the event, Angie Jodoin was presented with a Volunteer Appreciation award for her tireless efforts supporting Cancer Chase, Community Closet, Santa's Breakfast and many more BCA activities!

Thank you once again to all of the Past, Present and Future BCA Volunteers! You are the heart of our community.

Calling all Blackburn Hamlet Gardeners! Do you have a garden you’d like to show on our Garden Tour?

Blackburn Seniors Breakfast Get-together

When: Wednesday, June 5, 2024 @ 9:00 AM

Where: Halibut House, 2672 Innes Road.

Blackburn Seniors (55+) are invited to gather for a great meal, wonderful conversation and lots of laughs at a new location right here in the Hamlet: Halibut House.

Ample parking is available. Guests are welcome.

Seniors Walk and Talk Outing

Seniors Walk and Talk

Our last walk of Spring 2024 will take place on Wednesday, June 12 at 1:00 PM. We will depart from the southernmost entrance to Diceman Park, off Ridgeburn Gate.

Participants will have the option to do a shorter or a longer route. 

Walks will proceed rain or shine.

First Aid Course - Date Change!

NOTE: The next First Aid course is now scheduled for JUNE 15!

First AidThe BCA, in association with PSMK First Aid Training Inc., is planning a series of First Aid courses to be held in the Hamlet throughout the year.

The first BCA course was held on April 8 at the Aspira Retirement Residence, where 16 participants successfully completed the course and received First Aid certificates! The BCA would like to thank Aspira for providing a work space for the course.

Our next scheduled course is June 15. To sign up for this course, contact safety@blackburnhamlet.ca

BCA In Person Board Meetings

Board Meeting

The BCA Board meetings will be held in person on the Third Thursday in May, June, September, October and November.  After a Christmas break, the January, February and March meetings will be virtual Zoom calls.

Residents of Blackburn Hamlet are welcome to join us for the next meeting at the Blackburn Community Hall (190 Glen Park Drive) on the evening of June 20, 2024  starting at 7:30pm.

Potluck Lunch and Travel Stories

When? Saturday, June 22, 2024, 11:30am to 3:30pm

Where? Blackburn Community Hall, 190 Glen Park Dr.

Blackburn Seniors are invited to join us for a potluck lunch and afternoon of sharing great stories from other cities and countries. No registration is necessary.

Bring a favourite shareable dish (appetizer, salad, main or dessert) and get ready for a fun afternoon. There will be a trivia game, door prizes and at least one moment that will make you say: “Hmm, I never knew that…”.

Cutlery, napkins, plates and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. Please bring your own serving utensils and, if you wish, a copy of your recipe…just in case people ask you for it.

Blackburn residents have lived and travelled all over the world and have a wealth of wonderful stories about their experiences. If you would like to tell others about a place you have lived or visited, or have any questions about the event, please email seniors@blackburnhamlet.ca

Kids & Youth Art in the Park 

Kids & Youth Art in the Park

Saturday June 29 from 10am to 3pm at the Blackburn Community Hall and exterior park (weather permitting)

Kids and Youth ages 5-18 are welcome to come by and create some art at the Community Hall. There will be various stations with crafting activities where kids and youth from all levels can participate. Kids 11 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Register to paint! From 1pm – 3pm, Youth ages 12 to 18 can come for a painting activity! Paint supplies will be provided and an instructor will guide you step by step to creating your masterpiece!. Please register by June 23, 2024 by sending an email with your name and age to youth@blackburnhamlet.ca.
