Seniors Breakfast

BCA Seniors Breakfast

When: Wednesday, November 1, 9:00 AM

 

Where: Broadway Bar & Grill, 1615 Orleans Blvd.

 

Calling all Blackburn Hamlet seniors aged 55+! Please join us for a good meal, lots of laughter and great conversation at the next Seniors Breakfast Get-together.

 

Ample parking is available.

Blackburn Seniors Walk & Talk 

Seniors Walking

When: Wednesday, November 8 AND Wednesday, November 22, 2023, 10:00 AM 

 

Where: Walks will begin at the entrance to Isaiah Scharfe Park (Bush Park), 41 Bearbrook Road, across from Westpark Drive. Parks – Blackburn Community Association (blackburnhamlet.ca) 

 

Blackburn Seniors (55+) are invited to join us for a series of leisurely walks around our lovely Blackburn Hamlet community.  

 

Walking routes and length will vary and the walks will proceed rain or shine.

 

Comfortable shoes and a water bottle are highly recommended.

The Christmas Market offers a variety of crafts and products by local vendors  Funds collected from vendors and donations will be donated to a local charity.

November Discovery Café 

When: Thursday, November 23, 2023, 7:00 to 8:30 PM

 

Where: Blackburn Community Centre, 190 Glen Park Drive

 

Robin Grosset, Chief Technology Officer of Mindbridge, will join us for a fascinating session called “Detecting Fraud: A Behind-the-Scenes Look”. 

 

Technology is advancing at a staggering pace. Fraudsters view each new advancement as an opportunity to exploit weaknesses in systems and are using increasingly sophisticated approaches to wreak havoc on organizations and individuals. In this session, Mr. Grosset will discuss how Ottawa-based Mindbridge, a well-respected and fast-growing financial fraud detection company, is helping companies find fraudulent activity and mitigate risk.

 

Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

Holiday Pancake Breakfast

Santa

Saturday, December 2 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am

 

Mark your calendar for December 2. Come join us at the Blackburn Community Hall (190 Glenpark Drive). Santa & his elves will be there to hand out gifts to both adults and children. In addition, Santa will have a workshop where children can present their Christmas wish list to Santa, in person. Community volunteers will be there to hand out pancakes laden with maple syrup and succulent tasting sausages. Other community volunteers will ensure there are refreshments for everyone. 

 

Tickets:  $10 per individual or family

*FREE admission for BCA Members*

 

Don't forget, you can renew your BCA Membership at the event for only $10!

Don't forget to support the BCA and renew your annual Membership!  Memberships are valid from July 1st to June 30th.

 

Your membership includes the following benefits:  

  • The right to vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), usually in March
  • The right to stand for election to the Board of Directors 
  • Free admission to some BCA led activities, such as the upcoming Santa’s Pancake Breakfast on December 2nd

Love Blackburn? Raise Your Hand

The BCA is looking for a new Membership Director who would be responsible for managing the Blackburn Community Association Memberships. This is accomplished through a number of activities including:

  • Maintaining the database of active BCA members;
  • Collecting annual membership dues;
  • Distributing membership cards;
  • Managing a membership table at Community events including the Annual Members Meetings, Funfair, Santa's Breakfast and other events as needed;
  • Distribute voting cards at the Annual and Special Members Meetings;

If you would like to join the BCA Board and take over this role, please contact Mark Lister at president@blackburnhamlet.ca. Note, you must hold a current BCA Membership to join the board.

Outdoor Community Rinks Volunteers Needed

Rink Volunteers

The Blackburn Hamlet Community Association is seeking volunteers for our outdoor community rinks at Bearbrook rink and Norman Johnston School.  Volunteers will be responsible for creating and maintaining outdoor rinks from December through March.  We are seeking a team of volunteers for both rinks.  We currently have only 2 volunteers for the Norman Johnston Rink and the season is in jeopardy if we do not get additional support.  If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Mark Lister at president@blackburnhamlet.com

Better Homes Ottawa

Better Homes Ottawa

The Better Homes Ottawa Loan Program offers 20 year, low interest loans to Ottawa property owners. Join the City's Climate Change and Resiliency team to learn more about this program, as well as the complimentary rebate and incentive programs available.

 

The City will be hosting a pair of online information sessions providing an overview of this program, as well as the other rebate and financial support programs available to homeowners supporting environmental home improvements. Information and registration can be found at the links below.
