UPTick Research Project

Concerned about ticks? Want to learn about research that is being done in the Ottawa area? Blackburn Community Association's Environment Committee has invited University of Ottawa researchers, led by Dr. Manisha Kulkarni, to give a presentation on the UPTick project. The project aims to assess the impacts of urban landscapes on tick populations and tick-borne disease transmission.

The team will give a virtual presentation on Wednesday February 1st from 6:30 to 7:15 pm to share information about this project and other tick-related research studies they are conducting in Ottawa. Presentation is free.

Hockey Day in the Hamlet

As many of you may have noticed, the warm winter weather has made it difficult for our volunteers to make enough ice to open up the Norman Johnson Outdoor Rrink.  Without ice, it would be difficult to hold our annual Hockey Day event on Family Day. 

Over the next two weeks we will be watching the weather and ice conditions closely before making a decision on the event.  If we do proceed, we will be posting a sign at the four corners (Innes and Bearbrook) and announcing details on our website and facebook group.
