Back to school means watching out for our children! - Blackburn Hamlet Community Association

School is back in session after summer vacation, resulting in lots of children walking through our community and crossing streets.

With more children walking in the morning and afternoon rush hours, motorists need to keep an even more watchful eye out for pedestrians, cyclists and school buses.

For the rules of the road around school buses, visit the Ontario Ministry of Transportation website.

And don’t forget that Bearbrook Road is now a 40 km/h zone and that all motorists are expected to adhere to it. On Bearbrook Road alone, we have two schools and two pedestrian crosswalks where children cross every day.

Ottawa Police will also be out in force this month targeting areas around schools and keeping an eye out for motorists breaking the rules and endangering the safety of our children.

So stay vigilant. Stay safe.
